Laser Blepharoplasty

What is laser blepharoplasty and how is it different from scalpel?

Blepharoplasty derives from the Greek words “blepharon” and “plasm” meaning eyelid repair.  Baggy, droopy eyelids are a very noticeable sign of aging and can add years to our appearance.  Blepharoplasty is a procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower lids to provide a refreshed look and take years off the face.  Using a laser instead of a scalpel allows this to be performed in a more controlled, bloodless fashion, affording excellent visibility of all important structures, extreme precision, and a high safety profile.  Lasers work by heat vaporization instead of cold cutting, resulting in less bruising, swelling, pain, and scarring compared to scalpel surgery.  Patients heal faster and look better sooner than with traditional blepharoplasty.

laser handpieceWhy doesn’t every surgeon use a laser?

  • Laser surgery requires additional training for the doctor and staff
  • Laser blepharoplasty has a steep learning curve
  • Lasers are very expensive to buy and maintain
  • Most surgeons are in their comfort zone only with a scalpel

BEFORE/AFTER GALLERY: LASER BLEPHAROPLASTY

Patient #1 – please click on any image to enlarge, see details and slideshow

Age: 26 Years
Complaint: This patient had “double bags” in her lower lids. The top bag was caused by orbicularis muscle thickening (from years of squinting) and the lower bag was herniated orbital fat. This created a tired look which was not alleviated with makeup or concealer.
Solution: Refreshed, rejuvenated look after laser lower lid blepharoplasty which involved thinning the muscle, removing the fat pads, and lastly, removing the excess, loose skin. Just 3 weeks after the procedure, her face and her life have been transformed with improved self-confidence. She looks absolutely stunning with and without makeup. The photos below with makeup have been graciously provided by the patient.

Here is this patient’s testimonial:

Over the last several years, I developed large dark bags under my eyes. I began to look tired even though I had plenty of energy. Many of my clients remarked that I looked very exhausted. I even heard comments like, “it looks like you need a good nights sleep.” I knew they were reacting to my eyes. I tried tropical treatments, concealers, coverups, and creams which either didn’t help or only made it look worse.

I consulted with Dr.. Lopa Gupta, and she recommended two procedures that would address my problem – a lower lid blephoplasty and direct festoon repair. Dr. Gupta showed me before and after pictures of similar cases and I was sold. Just 2 weeks after the surgery, I already look so much better. The surgery was a success. My eyes are continuing to improve over time and I couldn’t be happier.

I highly recommend Dr. Gupta. She is an expert’s expert in her field. She made me feel comfortable and reassured, and her staff is excellent. She is now on my short list of trusted medical practitioners.
